Al Khalidi Medical Center is proud of being the first center in Jordan and Middle East that provides most advanced state-of-the-art medical services including eye surgeries for the last three decades. It was the first in entering the Phaco-emulsification technique for removal of cataract in suture less technique and foldable intraocular lenses.

In addition to being one of the first specialized centers in vitro–retinal and corneal surgery, our center has been expanding to include units in pediatric ophthalmology, squint disorder, phaco-emulsification for cataract ,foldable lenses, low visual aids and others. Our operating rooms are fully equipped with the most advanced machines in our field of practice; new diagnostic techniques are constantly added.
Al Khalidi Eye Center is supervised by consultant ophthalmic surgeons with advanced training in UK and USA and excellent experience in different sub-specialties in ophthalmology.
Units of Al Khalidi Eye Center
Correction of Hypermetropia .
Until recently, hypermetropia was the most challenging and least successful of all Lasik procedures; but thanks to advanced German technology, we are now able to correct up to five degrees of hypermetropia. The Total Wavefront Technology is employed to prepare the most suitable therapeutic plan for the cornea. Follow up on our patients during the past years has shown stable vision and no relapse of refractive errors.

Correction of Myopia & Astigmatism
The Esiris technology provided by Schwind is famous for utmost precision in correction of Myopia and Astigmatism. This technology can correct up to 12 degrees Myopia and up to 7 degrees of Astigmatism.

Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus unit
This unit provides care for premature infants, children till the age of 18 years, with different eye complaints like refractive errors, squint, congenital malformations of the eye and orbit, congenital cataract and glaucoma .Adult patients complaining of squint or eye muscle imbalance are also received in this unit.
Vitro-Retinal unit
This Unit provides care for all patients complaining of chronical diseases like diabetes etc. that might affect the retina etes. Regular examinations are done for these patients even if they are not complaining of eye problems. Early discovery and treatment of retinal affection by diabetes is our goal. Other conditions like eye injuries, Retinal detachment, age related macular degeneration, hereditary retinal disorders, as well as pre-Lasik retinal examination are also done in this unit.
Cataract unit
This unit provides care for patients complaining of cataract, whereby operations like PHACO are done. PHACO is a technique by which a cataractous lens is fragmented using ultrasonic waves, and removed through a small incision that does not need stitches. Shortly after surgery , the patient can go back to usual activities.
Cornea, External disease Unit
Treats diseases of the cornea, conjunctiva, ocular allergy and corneal transplant surgeries.
Oculoplasty Unit
Plastic surgery of the eyes such as Ptosis (droopy eyelids or after traumas or burns). Probing and restructuring lacrimal ducts are done in this unit.
Ocular Oncology Unit
Treats eye tumors via radiation, chemotherapy or surgery according to the size and location of the tumor.

Neuro- Ophthalmology Unit
Treats eye diseases related to the optic nerve or the nervous system (affecting the eye nerves) such as optic nerve inflammations.

Contact Lenses Unit
In this unit, the following is done: refraction, identification of the suitable contact lenses for patients, for cosmetic purposes and training on how to use or maintain them.
Ophthalmic Investigation Unit
In this unit investigations required to assure the diagnosis and follow up of the patients’ medical condition are done.
Orthokeratology ( Ortho-k)
Orthokeratology - it is the most advanced non-surgical method of treatment of myopia (short sighted) with contact lenses.
There are two theories of how Ortho-k reduces myopia:
- Reshaping the cornea occurs by bending the cornea using rigid lenses.
- Reshaping the cornea occurs by redistributing corneal tissue rather than changing the refractive error by bending.
- The theory has the hypothesis that a thin layer of tear film exists between the back of Ortho-k lens and central cornea. Forces of this tear film act hydraulically to force a redistribution of epithelial cells under the lens from the center towards the periphery (This explains why patients can wear lenses flatter than flattest K and still experience NO CENTRAL CORNEAL STAINING OR IRRITATION).
Glaucoma Unit
This unit provides care for cases of congenital and acquired glaucoma (elevation of intraocular pressure), with new diagnostic techniques. Surgeons in our center have good experience in complicated glaucoma cases like those seen in congenital glaucoma, and implantation of pressure regulating valves.
Low vision aids unit
This unit provides care for patients with visual acuity less than 6/18, who need special optical devices to help them read and carry out most daily-life activities.
|
Medical photography unit
This unit is a retinal imaging unit, whereby instant retinal imaging (Fluorescein angiography) is done, and photos are kept for further study whenever indicated.

Ultrasound Unit
In this unit, ultrasound is used to study the retina when the ocular media are not transparent. Preoperative measurement of intraocular lens power is also done in this unit.

Laser Unit
This unit includes both Argon and Yag Laser. Argon laser is used to treat retinal damage caused by diabetic eye disease; it helps to prevent further visual loss caused by diabetes.
|
This type of laser is also used for prophylactic treatment of retinal holes before they progress into retinal detachment; this happens mostly in patients with high myopia. YAG laser is used in a simple and safe procedure for removal of membranes that may form following intraocular lens implantation and cause a reduction in vision in patients who already had good vision in the first few weeks following surgery. It's also used for formation of therapeutic holes in the iris in patients with certain types of glaucoma.
