KMC Laboratory is equipped with the latest, computerized instruments for quick and accurate inpatients and outpatients testing. KMC laboratory is considered the largest referral laboratory not only in Jordan but in the area.
There are two cars available for sample collection from many laboratories and hospitals in Jordan.Samples are received from many Arab countries such as Kuwait, UAE, Qatar, Syria, Sudan, Saudi Arabia and the West Bank of Jordan. The KMC laboratory is involved in clinical chemistry, medical microbiology, hematology, immunology and virology as well as body fluids tests. It features high pressure liquid chromatography, gas chromatography, mass spectrometry, and pathology. Other Departments of KMC laboratory are : bone marrow transplantation and Plasmaphoresis, special tests department, molecular genetics & PCR, as well as neonatal screening & inborn error of metabolism .

SPECIAL TESTS
Some of the special tests that are conducted include Sirolimus and many vitamins tests, such as A, E, B1, B2, B6, K1, D, Biotin & B-carotene by HPLC. The molecular genetics department offers many tests such as familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) by PCR, alpha & beta thalasemia, activated protein C & factor II mutations & MTHFR by PCR. In addition, the PCR department . offers many viral loads testing for HCV-RNA, HBV-DNA & CMV-DNA, Chlamydia, N.G, TB, Herpes I&II by PCR. HLA-B5, B27 & HLA ABC & DR tests are also available.

In addition, the genes that are responsible for such diseases as cardiovascular diseases, Alzheimer's disease , Osteoporosis, Coliac disease ,Y-Chromosome microdeletions, Duchenne & Becker muscular dystrophies, Behcet disease (HLA-B5),Ankylosing spondylitis (HLA-B27),Cystic fibrosis, have been introduced recently.
The virology department includes many tests such as Hepatitis A, B, C, D, E, G, HTLV I & II, Coxsackie A & B, Echovirus screen, etc.
The laboratory provides pre-marital testing & allergy testing (40 allergens) in blood.
The immunology department also provides many rare tests such as acetylcholine receptors Ab., TSH receptor Ab., Neuronal Ab., anti gangliosides Ab., Inner ear Ab., & anti skin Ab. All tumors markers are available, such as CA242, NSE, CA19-9, PSA , CA15-3.etc.
Inborn error of metabolism includes both amino acid analysis by HPLC & organic acids by GC-MS & many neonatal screen testing on blood spot on filter paper. Fetal maturity (L/S ratio) is also available.
The endocrinology department includes a wide spectrum of tests such as IGF-1, IGF-BP-3, aldosterone, renin, adrenaline, nor- adrenaline & L-dopamine (by HPLC), erythropoietin, parathyroid hormone, anti-diuretic hormone & many routine hormones.
In medical microbiology, MIC system & automated blood culture system are available at KMC. We are also an integral part of the bone marrow transplantation unit which has achieved world class ratio of success (80%) in the transplantation program .
In plasmaphoresis, single donor platelets & therapeutic plasma exchange are also available. Food intolerance for obesity (ALCAT) is also available.
Cytogenetics department was opened recently & chromosomal analysis is carried out for blood, product of conception, amniotic fluid, and bone marrow aspirate. A print out of the chromosomes image will be given with the report.
FISH technique was introduced for PGD & sex selection in co-operation with IVF department. Chromosomal analysis is carried out in blood & in amniotic fluid. A print out of the image is given with the report.
Recently, atomic absorption test was introduced for tracing elements and heavy metals analysis (21 metals).
The concentration of metals in blood, hair, nails, semen can be carried out.
Automated Semen analyzers is used for semen analysis .This will decrease the error in manual work & give a full report concerning the dynamic & morphology of the sperms analyzed. True images are given with the report. In addition, identification of parasites in stool is carried out by this instrument . An image of the parasites will be given with the report.
Recently, 6 types of Porphyrines in urine were introduced by HPLC. The fractions measured are:
1. Uroporphyrins,
2. Coproporphyrins,
3. Heptacarboxyl porphyrins,
4. Hexacarboxyl porphyrins,
5. Pentacarboxyl porphyrins,
6. Delta ALA.
